Our History
Vann York Auto Group is owned and operated by the York family in Vann York’s hometown of High Point, NC. The group includes 10 franchises and a finance company.
1968 – Vann York joins his father-in-law at a small Chevrolet dealership in Pilot Mountain, NC
1971 – Vann and his wife Ann buy Neill Pontiac on the corner of Montileu and Main Streets in High Point, NC. This store was the beginning of the Vann York Auto Group.
1974 – Vann York Honda (N. Main Street) joins the Vann York Auto Group.
1985 – Vann York Toyota (S. Main Street) joins the Vann York Auto Group.
1986 – Pontiac, Honda, Isuzu, and Hyundai franchises move to the current location of Vann York Auto Mall on Eastchester Drive.
1987 – Greg York joined the group as general manager of Vann York Toyota.
2000 – Greg York becomes President of Vann York Auto Group, adding the Buick and GMC franchises (Eastchester Drive).
2005 – Vann York’s High Point Nissan (S. Main Street) joins the Vann York Auto Group.
2008 – Vann York Toyota moves to its current location next to Vann York Auto Mall (Eastchester Drive).
2010 – The Chevrolet and Cadillac franchises are added to Vann York GM (Eastchester Drive).
2013 – New South Finance, a finance alternative for Vann York used car customers, was founded. There are now over 700 accounts.
2017 – Greg York and Tim Sturdivant, general manager at Vann York Honda for 20 years, acquired Freedom Honda in Sumter, S.C.
2023 – Vann York Subaru and Vann York Buick GMC of Asheboro in Asheboro, N.C. join Vann York Auto Group.
About Our Founder
Vann York was born and raised in High Point, NC, where his early childhood coincided with the Great Depression. At 17 years old, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy to serve in World War II as a telegraph operator. After the war, Vann enrolled the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Vann married his wife, Ann, in 1953, and they had three children. After working for GMAC for almost 20 years, he joined Ann’s father at a small Chevrolet dealership in Pilot Mountain, NC. In 1971, Vann and the family moved back to High Point to open Vann York Pontiac. This was the beginning of Vann York Auto Group.

Vann was recognized with the Lifetime Achievement award from the North Carolina Automobile Dealers Association in 2009, presented to industry leaders who embody the true spirit of successful entrepreneurs, civic leaders and industry stalwarts.
In 2013, Vann and Ann were named the High Point Citizens of the Year in recognition to their service to the community, including their work with the Urban Ministry, Tocqueville Society, High Point University, High Point Bank, High Point Medical Center, High Point Open Door Ministry and High Point YMCA.
Vann York died in 2019 at the age of 91, leaving a legacy of hard work, commitment to excellence, and a community of loyal employees and customers. Vann was an inspiring leader and successful entrepreneur, but he will be remembered most for his dedicated support to High Point’s philanthropic works.
